In the above photo James & Joseph Rockford are seen in the Honolulu Hawaii Airport after arriving on the island.
BLOOPER: Rocky tells his son Jim this is the first time he was been to Hawaii. But in a previous episode of the Rockford Files - "Dirty Money, Black Light" 1977 - Rocky won a trip to Hawaii and went there only to be subsequently grabbed by the FBI and brought back to Los Angeles California due to a case his son Jim Rockford was working on.

ABOVE PHOTO: Ken Swofford played Col. John 'Howling Mad' Smith who served with Jim Rockford in the Korean War. This was the 5th episode of the Rockford Files that Ken Swofford had a major role in. Ken Swofford was born in Illinois in 1933 and is still with us in 2012. He publicly fought a battle with alcohol abuse in the middle of his career and appears to have beaten it.

ABOVE PHOTO: Walter Kirk Stratton Jr. (W.K. Stratton) played Federal Agent Dwight "Whip" Whipple. In past episodes of the Rockford Files he played LAPD Sergeant Frank Dusenberg (Lt. Dennis Becker's partner). In this episode  Federal Agent Dwight "Whip" Whipple ends up very dead in a hot vehicle trunk.

The above hotel room was located in the Hawaiian Village Hotel - This is confirmed by the name of the hotel being printed on the room phone in the below photo.

UPDATE 04/17/2016: I received the following e-mail in regards to this hotel -

Hello there!  Thanks for the great website!  Here's something to add for you:

Regarding Rockford Files " The Hawaiian Holiday" episode --   The "Royal Surf" hotel depicted in the show was fictional and hotel signage added by the studio for effect;  but the location itself really did exist as an actual Waikiki hotel . . . . it was (and still is) The Halekulani (next door to the Hawaiian Village).

Compare your webpage screenshot of the "Royal Surf" with this old photo of the Halekulani - note the details etc.  This photo is from the 'legacy' section of the current Halekulani website -
http://www.halekulani.com/hotel/waikiki-legacy  -  so I'm guessing that portion of the property used for Rockford was torn down during a subsequent remodel.  The area looks very revamped on google Earth.  But the Halekulani has been there since before the Rockford shoot.

Anyhow, thought I'd pass along the info.

A Joplin, Missouri, police officer who was shot along with two other officers this week “will not recover” from his injuries, Police Chief Sloan Rowland said Thursday.

Rowland announced that patrol officer Jake Reed's family said he was being prepared to donate organs.

“We’re so proud, so thankful and forever in debt for his service to this community. ... Jake is an outstanding young man,” Rowland said.

Cpl. Benjamin Cooper died after being shot in the initial confrontation on Tuesday. A third officer, Rick Hirshey, was also shot and was in serious but stable condition Thursday, Rowland said.

Reed joined the police force in 2017. He and Cooper were among the first officers to confront 40-year-old Anthony Felix at a shopping mall in Joplin Tuesday afternoon.

Felix shot the two officers, stole a patrol car and fled. He crashed the car and was on foot when Hirshey saw him trying to steal another vehicle and positioned his patrol vehicle to stop the theft. Felix shot Hirshey through the windshield and hit him in the face, Rowland said.

Hirshey retired from the police force three months ago after more than 20 years of service but then returned to the department. He will face serious health problems and several surgeries in the days to come, the chief said.

Felix was then shot and killed by police Capt. William Davis, Rowland said. Davis, a veteran of more than 15 years, left cover and exposed himself to stop the suspect.

“If not for Capt. Davis' actions, additional officers and citizens could have been killed,” Rowland said.

Rowland asked everyone to pray for all the officers involved. He also thanked the community for its outpouring of support since the shooting.

Police have not released any information about Felix.

Joe Santos

Actor
Joe Santos was an American film and television actor. Born in Brooklyn on June 9, 1931, the same day his father died. His mother, the former Rose Sarno, sold olive oil and eventually became a nightclub owner and singer in New York and Havana. She later married Puerto Rican-born Daniel Santos, and Joe took his name.

Date of Birth9 June1931Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA
Date of Death18 March2016Santa Monica, California, USA (heart attack)
Birth NameJoseph Minieri
Height5' 9" (1.75 m)

Mini Bio (1)

Brooklyn-born actor of Italian descent, Joe Santos started out a football jock at Fordham University and turned semi-pro before finding a new avenue in acting. Success was long in coming, and he paid his dues for years in a number of blue-collar jobs including railroad worker, tree trimmer, cabbie and barkeep while taking acting classes.

A soap opera job and work in his cousin Joseph W. Sarno's cheap jack film exploitations (Flesh and Lace (1965), Moonlighting Wives (1966) and My Body Hungers (1967)) in the '60s seemed to lead nowhere. His first real break came with the searing film downer The Panic in Needle Park (1971), getting a part at the urging of his friend and star of the film, the up-and-coming Al Pacino, who had played some softball with Santos.

A prime role as a sympathetic sergeant in the acclaimed TV mini-series The Blue Knight (1973) led Santos in the direction of "good cop" parts, with a long-running role as James Garner's long-suffering friend Lt. Becker on the series The Rockford Files (1974) (1974-80). Other series roles in Me and Maxx (1980), a.k.a. Pablo (1984)--as Paul Rodriguez's dad--and Lt. Harper in the 1985-86 season of Hardcastle and McCormick (1983) kept him busy.

Missing out on the one big role that might have put him on the map, the beefy and balding Santos remains a durable and reliable supporting player, getting some deserved notice in 2004 with his recurring role of "Consigliere Angelo Garepe" in the hit hit man series The Sopranos (1999). He has also dabbled in playwriting, having penned "Sunset Normandie", in which he also starred.

The Greatest Local Chicago TV Commercial Ever? Super Sash Window Co. - "We'll Get Serious" (1982)

Here's an ad which may well indeed wind up being the greatest local Chicago TV commercial... ...for Super Sash Window Co., with an elderly couple being consulted on what window replacement would work best for them - and the firm's owner advising that's because they'd gotten his free book "Knowing What's Best for Your Home's Sake" (it would be terrible if something should happen to your home, say, an "accident" perhaps?) - and ending the commercial by offering it to those watching at home. There are times when watching this that I feel like a Jerky Boys sketch might break out at any time. "I'll send you this book - better yet, I'll bring it myself . . . " This aired on local Chicago TV early Tuesday, September 14th 1982 during the 12:30am to 1:30am timeframe. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. THE ROCKFORD FILES 1974 Cast THEN AND NOW 2022 Thanks For The Memories The Rockford Files was an American detective drama television series starring James Garner that aired on the NBC network from September 13, 1974 to January 10, 1980, and has remained in syndication to the present day. Garner portrays Los Angeles–based private investigator Jim Rockford, with Noah Beery Jr. in the supporting role of his father, Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, a retired truck driver. The show was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell. Huggins had created the television show Maverick (1957–1962), which starred Garner, and he wanted to recapture that magic in a 'modern-day' detective setting. In 2002, The Rockford Files was ranked No. 39 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. Today, Let's see what all of "THE ROCKFORD FILES 1974" stars look like now versus when they were on the show!

I worked on identifying this filming location for a while. I was finally able to identified it after writing to a few of the actors who played Nazis in this episode. One of the actors, who wishes to remain anonymous, clued me in to the actual location.

Jim Rockford's old parole agent, Marcus Aurelius "Gabby" Hayes played by Louis Gossett Jr., has become a private detective and also with "Gabby" is muscle man / enforcer Gandolph Fitch, played by Iaac Hayes...
This so called "clue" leads these two characters to the Crystal Palace in Covina, CA.
It turns out that this location was NOT in Covina but in Venice, California.

ABOVE TWO PHOTOS: Marcus Aurelius "Gabby" Hayes & Gandolph Fitch arrive at the Crystal Palace Lounge.

ABOVE THREE PHOTOS: To the surprise of Marcus Aurelius "Gabby" Hayes & Gandolph Fitch the Crystal Palace Lounge is a private Nazi club. The big bartender was played by actor Dennis Burkley who we lost in 2013.

Two of Malibu's most prominent and beloved landmarks -- one a palace of secular dreams and the other a center of religious devotion -- were destroyed Sunday.

Lost to the flames was the Castle Kashan, the fairy-tale-like structure that stood for 30 years atop a Malibu hill, recognizable from below by its turrets and round towers. Also ravaged was Malibu Presbyterian Church, a high-steepled place of prayer and community action that had barely escaped destruction in the November 1993 infernos, which burned more than 300 homes in Malibu, Topanga and Calabasas.

The castle, filled with paintings and Elvis Presley memorabilia, was one of several homes of socialite-philanthropist Lilly Lawrence, known as "Princess Lilly." Castle Kashan was named after the village of her father, Reza Fallah, a former Iranian oil minister under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

About 6:30 a.m., Lawrence and a house guest were trapped inside her sprawling home, but they managed to escape.

Wearing a bathrobe, slippers and oversized sunglasses, Lawrence returned later to survey the wreckage and retrieve some belongings and emerged about 1:40 p.m. with friends carrying shopping bags. She thanked firefighters who remained outside battling the blaze.

"My possessions don't possess me. My house does not possess me," she told them. "I'm thinking about our boys in Iraq. I'm thinking about you boys."

Earlier this year, the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom castle overlooking Malibu Lagoon was listed for sale at $17 million. The 10,500-square-foot compound was in escrow briefly -- "for a minute" -- at an undisclosed price before Lawrence canceled the sale, she said Sunday. Lawrence said might consider rebuilding: "I'm keeping an open mind."

The mansion was built in 1978 by a doctor, Thomas Hodges. Lawrence bought it in 1998 and spent a considerable fortune on remodeling. Television shows such as "The Rockford Files" were shot there and the castle was available to rent for weddings amid its romantic archways and lion sculptures.

Lost in the fire were many works of art, family heirlooms, Faberge eggs and museum-worthy collections. Lawrence's library included signed photos from U.S. presidents.

Firefighters were able to rescue a few paintings, including one believed to be a portrait of Lawrence's father, and piled some furniture and mementos in a dry fountain outside the house. Included was a snapshot of a woman shaking hands with President Lyndon B. Johnson.

The castle's staircase was red-carpeted and a Cinderella-like glass slipper was kept on a step, attesting to Lawrence's humor and style.

An incongruous feature was the rock 'n' roll room that Lawrence, a die-hard Elvis fan, had decorated with the couch-like seat from a 1959 Cadillac and a "Gates of Graceland" mural. Lawrence said among the few things she grabbed during her evacuation were Presley's Army fatigues, which she bought many years ago from Graceland.
